Born in Oakland, CA. Survived by loving and devoted wife Frances (Thanash); sisters-in-law, Mary Thodas, Charlotte Derdevanis; and brother-in-law, Arthur Thanash and wife Roberta; stepmother, Mary Dutro; and many nieces and nephews. Graduated from Technical High, Oakland. Began his lifelong opera career as a teenager with the Opera in San Francisco with Maestro Casiglia. He was one of the few singers of the first Merola Opera. When he sang with the Pacific Opera in SF he was with his lifetime coach Maestro Nino Comel. In 1954 he sang the American premier of Carmina Burana. After winning the American Opera Auditions he made his European debut in Milan, Italy. He stayed in Europe for 25 years singing in major opera houses and the last 15 years in Berlin, Germany. He majored in Verdi roles and was known for his dramatic acting as well as his baritone voice.
